POLICE are hunting a man who used a knife to rob a service station at Werris Creek.
The offender walked into the Caltex service station on Single Street and brandished a knife about 7.35pm on Saturday, threatening the man behind the counter.
He stole a sum of cash and then fled, running from the store. While the employee wasn’t physically injured in the armed robbery, police have said he is “traumatised”.
The robbery was captured on CCTV and the offender is described as Aboriginal in appearance with facial hair, tall and with a slim build.
He was wearing denim jeans with elastic around the bottom, black shoes, a maroon long-sleeved shirt or jumper and had a dark red and brown jacket covering his head.
Oxley Detective Acting Inspector Jason Darcy said CCTV showed a number of cars driving past about the time of the hold-up.
“We are appealing for those drivers, any drivers that were in the area at the time, to come forward,” he said.
“Especially those that might have dashcam footage, or who might have seen a male acting suspiciously in the area at the time.”
Investigators believe the man might be known to locals in Werris Creek and have urged them to contact police.
“If anyone is found to be providing assistance or habouring that male, helping him in any way, then they will face prosecution,” Detective Darcy said.
“It is an offence, and those people need to know that if they are complicit in any way in this offence, then they will face charges.”
